Given that stress has been linked as a co-factor in 95% or all disease processes, a keystone of health and healing is learning how to effectively manage stress. This is of the utmost importance given the position we now face with the Covid-19 virus. This learning process begins with recognizing or identifying three specific types of stress affecting you and how these stressors (that is, what demands a change from you) are showing up or manifesting as symptoms in your life.
Stress factors broadly fall into three types or categories: physical, psychological and nutritional. Overall, improperly or ineffectively managed stress usually takes a toll on the body, the metabolism, and the immune system. Prolonged stress can result in suppressed immune function, increased susceptibility to infectious and immune-related diseases and cancer. Emotional stress can also result in hormonal imbalances (adrenal, pituitary, thyroid) that further interfere with healthy immune functioning.
That’s why in this 6-week series we will address stress reduction and management techniques impacting the three main stress categories: nutritional, emotional and physical. We’ll discuss the nature of stress in these areas and provide you with methods of stress reduction and prevention along with weekly goals and guidance.
