  1. 1. if it hits a defenders arm it needs to be intentional, or his arm needs to be in an unnatural position or raised above shoulder level. Trents arm was in a position you would expect it to be in because he's changing direction.

    2. the rules go on to say: "it is not usually an offence if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm:
directly from the player’s own head or body (including the foot), or directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close." The ball was deflected off lovrens foot and lovren was close.

    3. it's all moot anyway because the rules are different for attackers and it hit silva's arm first. the new rule clearly states if it hits an attackers arm in the box it's a free regardless of whether it's intentional or not.

this isn't even a debate. refs are not supposed to be trying to give pens against defenders unless there is either clear intent or the defender has used his arm to make himself big like a keeper would in a one on one. it even states that it's not a pen if the ball has deflected off another player who is close immediately before, and if all that wasn't enough for a VAR ref to give it the decision must be CLEAR AND OBVIOUS which it most definitely is not or we wouldn't be having this conversation.

  2. 'the way it happened and the speed it happened'. That's not in the law. the law says that If the ball hits a player who has made their body "unnaturally bigger" then a foul will be awarded. Why is Hargeaves talking about TAA's left arm? It hit his right arm. TAA could have been judged to have done that. 'I'm still not sure' Good job Hargreaves isn't the referee. All the managers wanted VAR. But they disagree with any call against them. As they did before VAR. VAR is not the problem. Cheating as an intrinsic part of football is. If cheating wasn't part of football, VAR would not be needed. Football and VAR will never work. It's killing football. I'm glad. Football didn't need VAR. But some demanded it. So they have got it and it'll ruin the game. As Blatter feared. He's a crook, no doubt. But he knows football. People should have listened to FIFA. Wenger is embarrassing.

  3. My guess is what happened is when they looked at VAR they saw Silva's handball first and then this one and decided that they cancelled each other out. You can't give the handball aganst TAA when it comes off Silva's hand first. I know the pundit in this video said Silva's was "accidental" so it doesn't count, but that's not true (pundits should really have to take the refs course before they comment on games). One of the new handball rules says that if an offensive player handles the ball it is a free kick whether on purpose or not (that's not the exact wording, but you get the point). So no, City shouldn't have gotten a penalty here. And btw, I'm a United supporter so the last thing I would do is defend a penalty shot not called against Liverpool

  4. It was a clean V for Liv.
    Sterling dives, no pen
It was a handball but from closerange, so player has no time to react and move his hand, so if reff gave pen in future players target hands in box not goal
